WINE
Castell’in Villa Wines
The main target of Castell’in Villa is producing high-quality wines from low-yield vineyards.
The most important wines are, of course, Chianti Classico and Chianti Classico Riserva. The Riserva ‘IN selection stands out among the wines of the latter kind: it is the highest expression of the Sangiovese vine.
Santacroce and Poggio delle Rose also have their importance, while the traditional Vin Santo del Chianti Classico is produced too, but in limited amounts.

Chianti Classico
The Castell’in Villa Chianti Classico is composed of 100% Sangiovese grapes. It is a complex and serious blend of our different vineyards. The wine is aged in traditional Chianti Classico casks for about 12 months.
The Castell’in Villa Chianti Classico captures the fruit of the Sangiovese grapes and the earthy, spicy and slightly wild traces of the soil in a beautiful blend. It is an unusually concentrated Chianti Classico, that will invariably benefit from age.
Chianti Classico Riserva
The Castell’in Villa Chianti Classico Riserva is made of Sangiovese grapes entirely from our best vineyards. The wine is blended and aged in oaks for 2-3 years. The wine ages very well and good vintages should be at their peak at an age of 6-15 years.
The Castell’in Villa Chianti Classico Riserva is concentrated well tannined and with an elegant fragrance for the eye and nose. The taste is complex, showing ripe fruit, black cherries and some deep earthy spicy tones
Riserva ‘IN
The term “Riserva” connects directly to the wine world. Together with “IN”, that is the symbol of Castell’in Villa, it gives more recognizability to this selection.
“Riserva ‘IN” is more than a simple wine: peculiar, exceptional, exclusive exaltation of the Sangiovese varietal, it is produced only during the best vintages, in a limited number of bottles.
With words alone, it is not possible to fully describe the exceptional experience that Riserva ‘IN offers. For finding out all the characteristics that make this wine unmistakable, we suggest to taste it.
Santacroce
The Santacroce is Castell’in Villa flagship wine made from 50% Cabernet Sauvignon grapes and 50% Sangiovese grapes. The wine is then stored for 18 months in barriques, traditional Bordeaux oak barrels of 225 litres capacity. The Santacroce is an example of what is called a Super-Tuscan wine. It is the result of the mix of the best methods and ingredients in local wine making and the creativity of the wine maker. Since the wine making method does not comply with the local rules for the D.O.C.G., the wine is only allowed to be classified as IGT Toscana.
The Castell’in Villa Santacroce is a thorough complex wine combining both the old and new styles of contemporary wine making.
Poggio delle Rose
This wine is made purely from a selection of our own Sangiovese cuttings, which have then been planted in this particular vineyard, which gives its name to the wine. It has been vinified according to the high standards and special methods used here at Castell’in Villa and then stored in new French oak barriques for more than 18 months.
The wine is a combination of ripe fruit and tannin. Even in its youth it has a complex intensity combined with the host of soft tannins.
Its characteristics are in line with other Castell’in Villa wines but in this case more concentrated. The wine displays both the generous cherry fruit and the earthy spicy characteristics that you will find in Castell’in Villa Chianti Classico Riservas combined with smoother but still plentiful tannins.
Vin Santo
Our Vin Santo is made in limited quantities. Necessarily so, since the Trebbiano and Malvasia grapes have to be selected and hand picked with great care before being laid out to dry in high loft until the traditional vinification process can begin to take place.
The Castell’in Villa Vin Santo is a medium dry white wine which is best sipped after dinner. Traditionally, it is accompanied by crunchy Tuscan “cantuccini” which are dipped into the wine. The dried grapes give the wine a very special taste.
